Here's a piece of potential casting that has us ready to hang the celebratory bunting: according to Variety, Brie Larson is the front-runner to take the lead in Captain Marvel.
We'd caution that at this point, it's still at the "early talks" stage and there is no formal deal in place. But according to the report, Larson is Marvel's top choice for the role and she's seriously considering it.
Larson – or whoever ends up playing the character – will take the role of Carol Danvers, a skilled test pilot whose DNA is melded with that of Kree warrior Mar-Vell. Subsequently, she gains powers such as flight, enhanced strength, damage resistance and the ability to absorb and re-channel energy. Guardians Of The Galaxy's Nicole Perlman and Inside Out's Meg LeFauve have been at work on the script, but there's no director attached yet.
It has the potential to be another big step for the actress, who has switched easily between comedy and drama and films of different sizes. She won an Oscar this year for the intimate and affecting Room and will next be part of the giant Kong: Skull Island. She's a fantastic actress and would be a welcome addition to the MCU.
Captain Marvel is currently targeting a March 8, 2019 release date.
