A Simple Favour

A missing woman and the twisted story that unfolds from there might not be usual territory for Paul Feig, a man more known for his comedy work. But he's ready to show what else he can do, movie-wise, with A Simple Favour, which is more Gone Girl than Ghostbusters. See the new trailer.

Adapted by Feig (building on work started by Jessica Sharzer) from Darcey Bell's novel, the story finds glamorous Emily (Blake Lively) asking Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) to pick up her son after school and Stephanie happily agreeing. Emily, you see, has a life that would make any woman jealous; she is the perfect mother with a dazzling career working for a famous fashion designer in Manhattan. Stephanie, a widow with a son in kindergarten, lonely in their Connecticut suburb, turns to her daily blog for connection and validation. Stephanie imagines Emily to be her new confidante and is shocked when the woman suddenly disappears without a trace, leaving her son and husband with no warning...

The mystery, of course, deepens from there, and the trailer hints at more turns and betrayals to come. A Simple Favour will be in UK cinemas on 21 September.
