Benedict Cumberbatch - Brexit

The UK's exit from the European Union is, supposedly, happening in March, 2019. But on TV, Brexit arrives earlier. The two-hour drama, scheduled for January and subtitled "An Uncivil War", is a joint venture between the UK's Channel 4 and HBO in the US, and stars Benedict Cumberbatch. Channel 4 released a teaser last month; now here's a bigger version from their Stateside counterparts.

Described in a Channel 4 press release earlier this year as an "utterly timely and compelling new political thriller", the film sees Cumberbatch in the sad-haired role of arch-Brexiteer Dominic Cummings, the leading strategist and campaign manager of the Vote Leave campaign.

"Unpacking the anatomy of the historic, high-stakes campaign to win the hearts and minds of the British people, this one-off drama set primarily during the referendum will, for the first time, explore the myriad tactics employed to swing one of the most surprising referendum results in living memory," Channel 4 said.

Toby Haynes (Doctor Who, Black Mirror, Sherlock) is the director, with the script provided by James Graham (previously behind Brit-politics TV movies The Vote and Coalition). Rory Kinnear co-stars as Craig Oliver, and Brexit debuts on HBO on 19 January, 2019. We'd surmise it'll arrive on Channel 4 at around the same time.
