Hoo boy.... We can just see the headlines and the wags on Twitter leaping on this one if the movie doesn't work. Despite the clear potential for mockery in the title, Ben Affleck and his The Accountant director Gavin O'Connor are considering making The Has-Been for Warner Bros.
According to Deadline, the studio has a script it likes from Out Of The Furnace's Brad Ingelsby that focuses on a former basketball all-star who lost his wife and family foundation as he struggled with addiction.
He spots a possible path to redemption in coaching am ethnically mixed hoops team at his old high school. It's a familiar-sounding story, but could work if handled well.
If the deals do come together, Warners is hoping to put this one on a fast track, which would put it ahead of the duo's planned Accountant sequel and, most likely, O'Connor's attachment to the Suicide Squad sequel (though that probably won't shoot until next year at the earliest). Affleck, meanwhile, will next be seen in Triple Frontier, which has yet to announce a release date.
