There have been several movies about tactics and ethics in the wake of 9/11, and Contagion writer Scott Z. Burns is aiming to add to the genre. He has Annette Bening, Adam Driver and Jon Hamm lined up to star in The Torture Report.

Jennifer Morrison is also in talks to co-star in the film, which as the title might suggest, takes a look at the CIA’s extreme interrogation program on detainees following the attacks. It's not Burns' first stab at the subject, as he was previously attached to write and direct a film for HBO, based on Katherine Eban's Vanity Fair article about the agency hiring two psychologists to build an interrogation program. That in turn led to shocking reports of extreme torture methods deployed as part of the war on terror. The HBO version is no longer happening, but Burns has taken the chance to set it up instead with VICE Studios and now has the cast making deals to star.

Bening will next be seen in Chekhov adaptation The Seagull and Life Itself. Driver will report back for more Star Wars duty when the new film kicks off filming this summer, and he's also part of the cast for Spike Lee's Black Klansman. Hamm's one of the stars of upcoming comedy Tag (6 July) and will also be found next year in the Good Omens TV adaptation.
