If you were looking for an answer as to how Chris Pine's Steve Trevor can appear in Wonder Woman 1984 despite the (spoiler alert) fact that he, er, died in the first film... Keep on waiting. Even with Pine's presence on the sequel's panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the team kept that a secret. Still, director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot did reveal the first footage from the film.
Though they've only been shooting for a few weeks, the trio offered up a brief clip that sees Gadot's title character (clad in her Lynda Carter-style outfit) taking on some bad guys in a mall, after sliding a young girl to safety against a giant teddy bear.
"One of the fave things about making the original was that it took place during World War I, in 1917, an era full of metaphors like modernity and the mechanized world," Jenkins said. "I grew up in the 80s, and this has its own look and feel. The reason I am excited is it showed mankind at its best and worst. It was grand and wonderful, there was great music and there were elegant and beautiful things. But other things about the decade revealed the worst of us. To have Wonder Woman in that period of time that was us at our most extreme, is wonderful."
Wonder Woman 1984 will see Diana going up against the danger of Cheetah (Kristen Wiig) and, presumably, explore more as to why she decides to leave humanity behind for a long period before Justice League. The movie is taking aim at a November 2019 release.
