Like Pokemon before it, card game Yu-Gi-Oh is attempting to complete its multimedia empire with a feature spinoff. No doubt its small fans are thrilled, but even young kids will have to be pretty undemanding to enjoy this mess.
Yugi is Yu-Gi-Oh champion but faces constant challenges from Kaiba, who covets Yugi's unbeatable "Egyptian god cards". Anubis, who wants to take over the world, is manipulating Kaiba. Yugi also has a Pharaoh alter-ego and assorted friends who exist solely to permit a 'friends are good' moral in a dizzyingly confusing plot.
Interminable trump card battles form the bulk of the film, in which players produce baffling combinations of cards and fight imaginary battles. The overblown dialogue is frequently nonsensical - "Even eternity doesn't last forever" - and the animation shoddy. One for die-hard fans only, and their parents should steer clear.
