When asked in Zombieland if he had any regrets, Bill Murray sighed deeply and replied, “Garfield.” It’s a warning his Ghostbusters castmate Dan Aykroyd has failed to heed, lending his voice to his own update of a tubby ’toon icon. While it’s not completely odious, the people involved clearly have no idea what to do with Yogi beyond some tired “picernick”-snatching japes, leaving the human cast (including a tranquilised-looking Anna Faris) to dominate the screentime. Questions linger, unanswered. What drug did they use on Justin Timberlake to make him sign on as Boo-Boo? Why are characters amazed by an exotic turtle but not by talking bears? And will one of these wretched films ever restrain itself from making the CG animals dance to hip-hop?
