Neurotic Anna (Emily Browning) is released from an asylum, still traumatised by her mother’s suspicious death. She returns to a house where her father (David Strathairn) smooches with her dead mother’s former nurse (Elizabeth Banks), sister Alex (Arielle Kebbel) loiters in an unfeasibly brief bikini, and three ghost kids keep appearing.
This slick remake of the Korean A Tale Of Two Sisters jiggles the plot to pay off with a new set of twists, though the climax features two revelations you’ve seen far too often lately. Banks might have signed on hoping for a role as juicy as Yum Jung-Ah got in the original, but is underused since this version skews from wicked stepmother to imperilled teens.
