A round-robin caper from three leading Hong Kong helmers - Tsui Hark, Ringo Lam and Johnnie To. Hark brings on a group of amateur crooks and has them heist some strange antiques (a vest made of coins); Lam pens up a few of them in a warehouse, with a handcuffed, bleeding cop, and has them argue (a gag aimed at Tarantino, often accused of lifting Reservoir Dogs from Lam’s City On Fire); and To gets out into the country for a more farcical, violent wind-up at a crazy restaurant. It’s a shaggy dog story, with a script obviously made up as the film was being shot, but reasonably engrossing as the directors enjoy exaggerating their own mannerisms.
