Tears Of The Sun Review
A Navy S.E.A.L. unit is sent into war-torn Nigeria to rescue a doctor, but not the refugees she cares for. With a rebel militia group on their trail, they wonder if there's more to the 'refugees' than first appeared.
Original Title:Tears Of The Sun
You're developing a drama centred on the one-sided Nigerian civil war. So what do you do?
Apparently, hire Bruce Willis, add cloying close-ups of African extras with appropriate ethnic music and ensure that your leading lady's cleavage is on show during the "dramatic" bits. At least there are plenty of guns and choppers, so not everyone will be disappointed.
An overly sentimental and almost offensively optimistic ending reinforces the feeling that this is simply moral wish-fulfilment - a slick apology for US foreign policy.
