Tears Of The Black Tiger

It's probably tigers of the crouching variety we should start with. Because while Sasanatieng's gloriously stylised Bollywood melodrama/Spaghetti Western hardly challenges Ang Lee's gem in a kinetic sense, there's a chance that audiences now more open to Far Eastern mystery will pay attention.

Wonderfully shot in an oh-so-bright colour scheme and laced with a delightful sense of humour, the tale of gunslinger Dum (Ngamsan) and his childhood sweetheart Rumpoey (Malucchi) is a joy. Fine, so the love story occasionally drags, but some hugely imaginative shoot-outs and sumptuous scenery easily make up for this. Without a doubt - stop the press! - the best Thai Western you'll ever see. Which is arguably, of course, the best testament to its worldwide potential.
