For a man gifted with such natural comic timing and affability, Steve Zahn sure can pick some stinkers. The star of National Security and Daddy Day Care lucks out again with this lowly effort – a sort of gross-out Animals Do The Funniest Things with extra dick gags.
Zahn plays a guy who, following in his TV naturalist father’s footsteps, attempts to track down the mythical Bigfoot and save his woefully ill-informed reality show.
With the whole of the animal kingdom at their disposal, there’s something intensely depressing about a film that gets its biggest laugh from a turkey gobbling on Zahn’s privates. Managing to waste the talents of an embarrassed-looking Jonah Hill (joined here by the equally uncomfortable Jeff Garlin and Justin Long), Strange Wilderness is just plain animal tragic.
