Still Review

Already traumatised by his son’s hit-and-run death, Aiden Gillen’s alcoholic finds himself terrorised by a King’s Cross gang. Numbed by booze and memories seething, when the baiting turns violent, tempers snap. Ironically, only Gillen’s deterioration holds together this dreary soup of urban angst that, like its jazz-grime-ambient score, never settles on its own identity. Social realism and implausible twists are sworn stylistic enemies. Why Simon Blake turns to credibility-killing melodrama is baffling enough, but the effect is one of cheek-puffing frustration and emotional disconnect.
