The Silent House Review

A brief, modestly creepy horror film, presented in what seems to be a Rope-like 79-minute continuous take (though an editor is credited) as frail Laura (Florencia Colucci) and her father (Gustavo Alonso) spend the night in an isolated house they are supposed to be restoring. Odd sounds disturb their sleep, the father is attacked, creepy toys and suggestive Polaroids show up to hint at the back story, a spooky child is glimpsed and Laura clutches a sickle and gets bloody as she’s chased by an apparent mad killer. Embedded in the now-familiar creeping-about-in-the-dark-whimpering-in-real-time business are a couple of pull-out-the-rug twists that give The Silent House (which is, incidentally, pretty noisy) more depth than the usual slasher, though it’s basically a shaggy dog story with chills. A remake is already in the works.
