Elizabeth Olsen stars in this period drama based on the Zola novel Thérèse Raquin. Trapped in a loveless marriage with her sickly cousin Camille (Tom Felton), Thérèse is easily lured into an affair with his rakish old chum, Laurent (Oscar Isaac). Passion and melodrama follow in the side streets and parks of Paris. It’s a little plodding and could use more character insight, but the story’s eventful enough to keep the interest, and Olsen and Isaac are terrific. A strong supporting cast includes Shirley Henderson, Mackenzie Crook, Matt Lucas and most notably Jessica Lange as Camille’s doting mother.
