Why do so many movies fall apart in the final reel? Jeong's excuse is that this is his debut, but with a little restraint he could have pulled off a madcap coup with this ambitious blend of sci-fi and serial-killing slapstick.
No-one borrows from other people's pictures with such grateful enthusiasm as a first-timer, and the director plunders the works of Jeunet and Caro, Shinya Tsukamoto and Takashi Miike in creating the underground HQ of a miner's son (Shin) who kidnaps an industrialist he suspects is preparing an alien invasion.
Their demented mind games are as entertaining as they're inventive, but Jeong can't resist plumping for a grandstand finish that undoes much of his previous good work.
