Salvo

Set during a Palermo heatwave, this starts brilliantly, as mobster Saleh Bakri abducts a foe’s blind sister (Sara Serraiocco). But there’s less immersive Steadicam and sound effects work once Bakri’s purpose becomes blunted by his feelings for his hostage.

A sparse and languid Italian thriller that carries a debt to Melville.
