Punk Singer, The

While fronting Riot Grrrl pioneers Bikini Kill and electroclash dance outfit Le Tigre, Kathleen Hanna seemed an unstoppable force of nature. In 2005, however, she vanished from view and Sini Anderson turns the final third of this starstruck profile into an infomercial on the debilitating effects of Lyme disease. The manner in which Hanna coped with the diagnosis is suitably inspiring. But the fascination lies in the punchy account of her innovatively provocative musical career and her uncompromising attitude to the chauvinism of the business, and the media that trivialised and demeaned female artists.

A fittingly punchy look at a powerhouse musician and campaigner.
