Audrey Tautou dazzles in this charming comedy that aspires to be a French Breakfast At Tiffany’s, and comes pretty close. Tautou’s Irène earns her baguette et beurre by sleeping with rich men, and falls into bed with penniless waiter Jean (Elmaleh), believing him to be a millionaire. Once she learns the truth she scarpers to Nice, with Jean in pursuit. It’s a farcical romp but, being French, it’s hugely glamorous and dripping with style as the pair race around the Côte d’Azur like a lovestruck Wile E. Coyote chasing a foxy Road Runner. Depending on your schmaltz tolerance, the ending will have you glowing with joy or rolling your eyes. Either way, this is a charming comedy - sparkling, seductive, sassy fun.
