Original Title:

Post Tenebras Lux

A series of short vignettes from Mexican Carlos Reygadas, Post Tenebras Lux is by turns striking (the child-in-storm opening), ridiculous (group sex in a hyper-pretentious bathhouse), and inexplicable (British rugby?). The tenderness feels natural, the brutishness cheap.

Reygadas' big ideas translate with mixed results.
