Anyone curious to see what the Artist’s Oscar-winning actor and director did next will delight in this collection of nine French shorts, ranging from two minutes to 20, each of which sets out to skewer aspects of infidelity. As with many portmanteau films, this rom-compilation varies in tone and quality, ranging from the sublime (Hazanavicius’ La Bonne Conscience) to the ridiculous (Thibault, one of Courtès’ four contributions). Jean Dujardin and Gilles Lellouche, who write, direct and star in the Las Vegas section, are highly watchable comic actors, and what emerges is a film of wit and style, often very funny — and surprisingly sad.
