Paris

Director Cédric Klapisch (Les Poupées Russes; Ni Pour, Ni Contre) returns to Paris for this bleak but beautiful love letter to the City Of Lights and life itself, as seen through the eyes of dancer Pierre (longtime Klapisch associate Duris), confined to his balcony by a heart problem. Like a Gallic Jimmy Stewart Pierre is compelled by the sometimes banal, sometimes extraordinary minutiae of his neighbours’ lives - problems that might inspire thoughts of suicide, but assume a different complexion when life may be taken away at any moment. As Klapisch wanders through vignettes of dreams and disappointments, he offers a captivating and never prescriptive paeon to humanity’s will to survive.
