Othello Review
Shakespeare's tale of jealousy. Desdemona, daughter of a Venetian aristocrat, elopes with Moorish military hero Othello, to the great resentment of Othello's envious underling Iago. Alas, Iago knows Othello's weakness, and with chilling malice works on him with but too good effect...
This most cinematic of Shakespeare adaptations took Orson Welles four years to complete.
He makes for a powerful presence as the Moor, but it's behind the camera where he really throws his weight around, suggesting the characters' psychological states through camera angles and movements, and using locations in Venice and Morocco with something approaching genius.
Welles genius behind the camera brings one of the Bard's darkest plays to life.
