Sam Peckinpah's final film - a barely coherent and sluggish adaptation of Robert Ludlum's Cold War thriller, in which TV reporter Rutger Hauer is told by CIA man John Hurt that his reunion guests are Soviet agents - sadly reveals the debilitating toll of drink and drugs upon the director's vision.
Even the formidable cast, featuring Burt Lancaster as a maniacal CIA boss, cannot galvanise Peckinpah's fitful interest.
