Love strives to cross the cultural divide in this Jamaican romance, set against Kingstons music scene. Naive young gospel singer Serena (Cherine Anderson) must choose between her Christian fiancé (Idris Elba) and an attractive young reggae artist (Ky-Mani Marley, son of Bob) whos keen for her to sing in his band. Many of the peripheral characters are slight, but the key players are involving and theres some entertaining gangsta action to balance out the sentiment.
Marley has undoubted screen presence, but its Cherine Andersons vocal performance thats the stand-out; its as appealing as the colourful setting. With its hesitant pace and low-budget trimmings, this is no Romeo + Juliet, but
it is a sweet, well-cast tale thats easy on both eye and ear.
