Shot in grainy 16mm, this is the story of ambitious student Raya Green (newcomer Rutina Wesley), who leaves her cushy private school and returns home after her sister’s drug problems wipe out the family finances. Once there, a big-money prize in a dance competition looks like her only way back.
Unfortunately, the script’s not as light on its feet as the cast. Burdened by clichés and relying too heavily on voiceover, you’ll be biding your time between dance sequences - if that’s your thing.
