Meet Monica Velour

From Porky's to Sex And The City, Kim Cattrall’s never been shy of stripping for the camera. Cattrall, and she’s the hook this film hangs from, put on 20 pounds before taking on the role of Monica Velour, a faded '70s porn star turned stripper who becomes the object of teenage Tobe Hulbert’s (a gawky Ingram) misguided longing. An unlikely twist of fate sees the pair thrown together in her trailer park home in rural Indiana. He wants to save her from herself, a role that she’s bemused by at best. So begins a May to December love story of sorts, with the cynical Monica doing her best to deflect the ardent advances of Tobe. The plot might be slight, but the leads are excellent, their out of step, would-be affair as heartbreaking and bleakly funny as love itself.

Beautifully acted, it's a tender love story with one or two belly laughs.
