Franny Armstrong’s film documents yet another reason to get the hump over Happy Meals. In 1986, Helen Steel and Dave Morris handed out a home-printed pamphlet that ripped open McDonald’s’ pernicious business practices. The junk-food toad demanded an apology. Steel and Morris refused. After 314 record-breaking days in court, there’s major McMuffin-on-face. True, Super Size Me is edgier, but it’s a publicity stunt compared to McLibel’s epic grind-out. Insightful and, unlike its target, immensely digestible.
