Life Or Something Like It

Angelina Jolie presumably donned the big blonde wig so that nobody would recognise her in this truly awful hodge-podge of screwball comedy and metaphysical mumbo-jumbo from director Stephen Herek, whose last films were the misfires Holy Man and Rock Star (no wonder his next is called Cheer Up).

It's a case of the blonde leading the bland here, as Jolie plays Lanie Kerrigan, an ambitious Seattle television reporter with a celebrity boyfriend and enviable lifestyle.

Lanie is just about to land a top job at a New York TV network when a clairvoyant tramp (Shalhoub) tells her she has but five days left to live, prompting her to take a long, hard look at her life, love and career choices. After this and Original Sin, Jolie might want to make a similar career reassessment.

Jolie's Academy Award is starting to look like a distant mirage.
