Elia Kazans screen version of Scott Fitzgeralds last, uncompleted novel scripted by Harold Pinter is a must-see for Robert De Niros quiet, compelling performance as the lonely boy wonder film producer (based on MGM studio boss Irving Thalberg). Jack Nicholson, Tony Curtis, Robert Mitchum and Jeanne Moreau are terrific in support. Enchanting scene: De Niro demonstrating in mime how to make movies to distraught writer Donald Pleasance.
