Who Killed Bambi?

Having earned his stripes scripting the likes of Harry, He’s Here To Help, Gilles Marchand makes his directorial debut with a formulaic medical thriller that singularly fails to generate a scintilla of suspense.

Sophie Quinton strives to suggest imperilled vulnerability as a trainee nurse who has to overcome bouts of dizziness to expose the nocturnal misdemeanours of a respected surgeon (Laurent Lucas). But once Marchand has revealed that the scenery-gnawing Lucas has a predilection for adulterating anaesthetic and molesting female patients, there’s nowhere for the action to go, apart from its inevitable and wholly unsatisfactory climactic showdown.

Subplots involving Quinton’s jobsworth cousin and Arab boyfriend merely string out the storyline. But at least cinematographer Pierre Milon captures the hospital’s sinister antisepticism.

Lacking in suspense and a satisfactory climax, despite the winsomeness of it's female lead.
