In John Dahl’s ordinary noir-ish comedy, Ben Kingsley is the painfully quiet Frank - an assassin who keeps his vodka iced and his gun loaded. When his booze addiction interferes with the accuracy of his bullets, Frank is banished to San Francisco to clean up. There he meets Laurel (Téa Leoni) and Tom (Luke Wilson) - two dull characters who provide love and friendship along the road to recovery.
Other cast members (particularly Bill Pullman) show the sort of creepy eccentricities ripe for laughs, making the lack of comic moments all the more galling.
Kingsley’s turn is a highlight but, as the predictable conclusion approaches, it becomes evident that You Kill Me has missed the target.
