Two football fans get chummy in this British indie — but this time, they’re female. Wide-eyed Nicole (Kerrie Hayes) meets streetsmart would-be WAG Jasmine (Nichola Burley) while waiting for a glimpse of their idol, local Liverpool player Lee (Jamie Doyle). The two become instant friends, sharing clothes, dreams and cheap plonk — until they take fandom a step too far.
It’s an engaging, witty coming-of-age tale of girlie bonding and a timely comment on the desire for fame (Jasmine’s lifeplan involves plastic surgery and meeting a footballer). You can feel the girls’ pain when the realities of life come crashing down on them — it’s just a shame this happens in a clumsy third act that lets the rest of the film down. Still, it’s worth a look for the gritty humour and promising young talent on show.
