This family-friendly remake of 1993 French time-travel romp, Les Visiteurs, retains the services of the two lead actors, Jean Reno and Christian Clavier. When a wizard's spell goes wrong, Count Thibault and his servant, Andre, are transported some 1,000 years into the future to present-day Chicago.
They're rescued by a museum worker, Julia (Applegate), who bears an uncanny resemblance to the Count's lost love, Princess Rosalind. While Thibault tries to get back in time, and teach the modern world old-fashioned morals, Andre befriends the hippy next door (Reid).
Although tighter than the chaotic original, the film's basic plotting and knockabout humour courts an even more mainstream audience. But the stream of alien-abroad gags should entertain those conversant with the Crocodile Dundee school of comedy.
