Likeable Robert Townsend who also co-wrote and directed is a delight in this patchy but consistently enjoyable chronicle of a young black actors efforts to crack Hollywood.
Townsend takes true aim at filmdoms racial stereotyping, and there are some really funny bits like an audition where a line of actors do yuk-yukking Eddie Murphy impersonations.
Interestingly enough The 17 days of shooting were spread over two years as Townsend had to tour as a stand-up comedian whenever he ran out of funds for production.
