A cast of great charm is not enough to cover the many tonal and story issues in Dax Shepard’s second film as director. Kristen Bell plays a teacher offered the job of her dreams, which requires a move to Los Angeles. This presents a problem for her boyfriend (Shepard), who is in the witness protection scheme and faces probable death in LA. Of course, they go anyway. It lurches between farce, car chase movie and indie drama in a way that constantly jars.

Theres the suggestion of a good comedy filmmaker here, but in trying out too many genres in one film Shepard winds up with something that never settles or fully engages.
