Pinhead returns with expanded scope and reduced budget. This fourth instalment in the Clive Barker-created series is set on a space station in the future with flashbacks to 18th century France and 1996 New York.
Pinhead looks and sounds sillier than usual, stooge characters get offed by hooks and chains and there's an unimpressive demon dog. The script is non -existent and the plotting is completely absurd. For die-hard Hellraiser fans it may at least be a fun jaunt but to anyone else it's just hard to watch (and not because of the gore, which looks cheaply done).
At barely 70 minutes long, this still manages to stammer and stall between the meaningless atrocities. It's time this series met Abbott and Costello.
