Harry Hill’s wonky brand of whimsy gets the big screen treatment in the form of a very mildly amusing road movie that most resembles his ‘90s Channel 4 shows. Within the first five minutes we’ve had a car chase and a gun battle (although for “car” read “mobility scooter”, and the shootout is with some chickens) but sadly it’s downhill from there.
Some of the jokes will date almost immediately: a Justin Bieber sequence chief among them. Others, like the disco carwash and some very Goodies-ish giant hamster antics, seem deliberately antiquated already. Walters does her Victoria Wood old lady routine; Jim Broadbent shows up in drag as a three-armed cleaning lady; and Sheridan Smith plays Harry’s love interest, the princess of the undersea shell people. Her father (Julian Barratt) disapproves.
