Forget Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy; here’s Husband Wife Detective Lover. It doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, does it? Settling instead for a title that lists the number of characters, the low-budget debut of director John Langridge confines events to a warehouse where Craig Conway’s scorned spouse has hired Sean Pertwee’s detective to deliver his kidnapped other half and her bit on the side. It’s easy to draw comparisons with The Disappearance Of Alice Creed, but this lacks the inventiveness and tension that distinguished J. Blakeson’s thriller. Although not entirely without merit (Martin Compston impresses in the most underwritten part), it’s hard to forget you’ve seen it all done better before.
