Ek Aur Ek Gyarah

The trouble with Bollywood sometimes is that repetition of plot, dialogue and direction can occasionally reduce audiences to exasperation and disillusionment.

Thankfully, David Dhawan's latest comedy drama – revolving around two notorious happy-go-lucky street rogues who get caught-up in the Indian underworld – sees the 'phenomenon' that is Govinda and Sanjay Dutt come alight on the silver screen to good effect, with performances that are top of the class.

However, for films such as this to appeal to the wider market and grab non-Asian viewers, it needs a great story, with funny set-pieces and characters you want to sit down and have coffee with. As it is, Dhawan's effort takes the same path as previous Bolly comedies, limping along and hoping that its big star names make the most of pratfall gags and passable farce.

The stars are charming, and the plot rattles along nicely, but it's still just too silly to win Bollywood cinema any new fans.
