Original Title:

Dil To Pagal Hai

A cultural eye-opener, this spectacularly made gorgeous love story was the first Bollywood flick in the UK to reach the £1 million mark - and it's easy to see why. Yash Chopra's muscular tale includes rich musical interludes and is both measured and intelligent.

Chopra sets his tale in Mumbai and creates a grand musical revolving around a love triangle between members of an Indian dance group. Shahrukh Khan, who forged his reputation with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Baazigar, is simply ravishing. The career-defining film for the director, Dil To Pagal Hai made Bollywood's kitsch glamour hugely fashionable.

It's great eye-candy, painting a portrait of a newly prosperous India in rainbow colours. Good performances too make this a cut above the Bollywood average.
