Original Title:

Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo

Rob Schneider’s he-ho sequel shares the slapdash feel of its predecessor, as if it’s been made by people who can’t believe they’ve been given money to goof around for a few weeks with a camera. But, despite being shot in the endlessly distracting Amsterdam, Deuce Bigalow 2 is more focused and funnier than the original.

In the past, Schneider has seemed unwilling to let anyone else share the spotlight, but this time around he’s generous to a fault, practically playing straight man to the excellent Eddie Griffin, who provides most of the big one-liners and, in one hilarious riff about being falsely outed, the film’s funniest running gag.

Naturally, it’s patchy as hell, but there’s arguably inspiration here, from the wonderfully inventive gigolo vocabulary — we have no idea what a Chilean rainbow is, and we’re not entirely sure we want to find out — to a near-heroic effort to insult every minority group under the sun. It’s also surprisingly sweet, in that strange way that only a movie that features a girl with a penis for a nose ‘sneezing’ into soup can be...

The Godfather II of manwhore sequels, this improves upon the original in every way. Especially if you’re drunk.
