Ayla - all blonde-haired and blue-eyed - proves herself superior in every way, signalling a dubious evolutionary step. Told at a glacial pace and shot through with misplaced modern sensibilities, the film, though well-acted in parts, leaves little to recommend it. Greater drama and prehistorical weight are to found in the earlier Quest For Fire or the BBC's Walking With Cavemen, and without so much as a trailer for extras, this feels like a relic.
