The high-concept set-up for this South Korean thriller - pimp hunts down serial killer who’s abducted one of his girls - makes it easy to see why the remake rights were snapped up by Leonardo DiCaprio. Director Na Hong-Jin executes the idea well too, choreographing a taut cat-and-mouse-game on the streets of Seoul - for the first half-hour, that is, until the perp is caught and the physical chase turns into a race against time to find the abductee. Some of the tension drains from a slow middle act, but it remains a gripping tale of sleuth-work and moral awakening. Be warned: contains hammer violence. What is it with Koreans and their hammers?
