Directed by Caroline Thompson, who is famous for being the writer on Edward Scissorhands, this animal adventure sees Rene Russo plays eccentric animal lover Trudy Lintz who, along with her husband Dr. Bill (Robbie Coltrane) brings up a family of chimpanzees in order to save them from a zoo. But she bites off more than she can chew when she takes in Buddy the gorilla. Part Pet Rescue part Animal Hospital, Buddy succeeds in tugging the heart strings while the animals (real or otherwise the geniuses at Henson's Creature Shop provide animatronic apes that are breathtakingly good) show up the humans in the acting stakes.
