Breed, The

Wes Craven “Presents” this horror about five college kids partying on a deserted island. While they’re flirting and drinking in a log cabin, a cute little puppy comes along to play. Turns out mummy and daddy doggy aren’t quite so adorable, however, and the group must attempt to escape the island while being hunted down by bloodthirsty hounds. Unless you’re canine-phobic, the threat isn’t exactly terrifying: scenes of multiple German Shepherds silently watching the group recall Lassie as much as The Birds.

Still, there’s some suspense, and the familiar cast — including Lost’s Michelle Rodriguez and CSI: NY’s Hill Harper — are likeable if you try not to work out how old they are (average age: 30).

A lightweight teen horror that only breaks from the formula when it comes to the less-than-terrifying predator.
