Far from the strobe-lit revel its name suggests, this Romanian film is a gentle meditation on lost time, set on the lapping shores of the Black Sea. The titular Boogie (Dragos Bucur) is on a weekend break with his young family when he bumps into two old school friends, who coax him into wine-fuelled reminiscences and put him at odds with his wife (4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days’ Anamaria Marinca). When she accuses him of neglecting responsibilities, Boogie rejoins them for a nightcrawl through the sights and sounds of his wilder youth, in an ill-fated attempt to rekindle its embers. Although hampered by pacing that borders on glacial, the performances infuse the story with lingering melancholy.
