Drew Barrymore generally brings out the better side of Adam Sandler, so this comedy reunion is better than, say, Grown Ups 2, if not The Wedding Singer. After a disastrous blind date, Lauren and Jim end up on holiday with their respective kids. Can a lavish African resort aimed at ‘blended’ families turn hate into love? No surprises here, nor many laughs, though the romance has a simple, sentimental appeal. Sandler elicits a few groans, while Barrymore’s much more fun with Wendi McLendon-Covey (Bridesmaids) as her cynical business partner — a spin-off with those two might be worth watching.

The Wedding Singer director Frank Coraci mines few laughs from the script but Sandler fans will find something to enjoy. They usually do.
