The Broken Lizard Comedy Group**, **which gave us the cult hit Super Troopers and the less successful Club Dread, returns with a stupidly funny film that celebrates all things beer-related. Jay Chandrasekhar directed The Dukes Of Hazzard on his own.

American brothers Todd and Jan travel to Oktoberfest and stumble upon a super-secret, centuries-old beer-games contest called Beerfest — the Olympics of beer-drinking. Once there, the brothers are ridiculed by their German cousins, who drink them under the table. Vowing to return in a year to defend their family (and national) honour, the Wolfhouse boys assemble a dream team of beer-drinkers and gamers.

This flick has everything a bloke flick should — bad language, topless women, toilet humor and beer. Lots and lots of beer. But it’s hard to take seriously (even to the extent that this film could be taken seriously) a plot which would have us believe that the US, a nation known for its weak beer and abstemious approach to drinking, can really take on all comers when it comes to downing the ale. And the portrayal of the English beer-drinking team, complete with Cockney slang and jokes about bad teeth, is tediously hackneyed. But watch out for amusing cameos from Willie Nelson

and Donald Sutherland.

Fans of Broken Lizard’s previous work will enjoy this beer-fuddled effort; for anyone else it has its moments, but is best watched through beer-goggles.
